With the Falling Temperatures, Greek Peaks Snow Making Machines Kick into Full Gear

Greek peak ski resort in Central New York snow making machines

After an unseasonably warm fall, we are all ready for the forecast of dropping temperatures and some great downhill skiing in Central, NY. November is here and right on its heels is the holiday season. Thanksgiving (check out our stupendous Thanksgiving menu) and the December holidays bring out new and old winter sport enthusiasts for a fantastic season.

As the temperatures continue their downward swing, we are getting our snow making machines into full gear and ready to provide you with the perfect skiing in the area.

Investment in Snow Making at Greek Peak

Originally opened in 1958 as a ski resort, the Cortland County attraction added Hope Lake Lodge in 2009 and an outdoor Adventure Center in 2010.

In 2013, Marc Stemmerman and John Meier purchased Greek Peak and have made $5.5 million worth of investments in the ski aea since then.

That includes over $800,000 spent in the off-season to improve the snowmaking capability.

President Wes Kryger says it's critical to make as much snow as possible when conditions allow.

"Marc and John have continued to invest in the snowmaking system. We have a new pumphouse facility, new compressors, additional pumps, additional booster pumps, some new snowmaking line, and several new snowmaking guns to try to deal with the fact that it's important to recover quicker because you have shorter windows of opportunity," said Kryger.

Kryger says the new equipment will increase snowmaking output by 1,000 gallons per minute.

When Greek Peak is fully operational in the winter, it employs over 600 workers.

This season it's offering a variety of new ticket and pass options. (Courtesy BinghamtonHomePage.com )
